Ceramic Coating in BD — Is the Shiny Protection Really Worth It?

The climate here is unforgiving: scorching sun most of the year, intense humidity, long monsoons, airborne industrial dust, frequent construction debris, and occasional salt exposure in coastal districts. Add in tight parking, crowded streets, and the occasional brush against a rickshaw handlebar or motorcycle bag, and keeping a car looking new starts to feel like a full-time job. 

This is exactly the use case where a professional ceramic coating shines. In this practical guide, we’ll break down what ceramic coating actually is, why it matters specifically for local conditions, how it compares to older protection methods (like wax or polymer sealants), what to expect from the installation, how to maintain it with the least effort, and how the numbers stack up for daily drivers, ride-share vehicles, and company fleets. What Is Ceramic Coating—Really? 

A modern ceramic coating is a liquid polymer (often containing SiO₂—silicon dioxide—sometimes boosted with SiC—silicon carbide) applied to properly prepared paint. At NASPRO Auto Detailing, however, we use a special graphene infused ceramic coating from IGL Coatings. After curing, it crosslinks to form a durable, transparent layer that bonds to the vehicle’s clearcoat. Think of it as a hard, hydrophobic “sacrificial” skin that resists chemical attack and environmental fallout better than bare paint can on its own. 

Key properties: 

• Hydrophobicity: Water beads and sheets off quickly, carrying away light soil. This is not a gimmick; it directly reduces how often your car looks dirty and how much effort you need to clean it. 
• Chemical resistance: Better resistance to acid rain, bird droppings, bug splatters, and the slightly alkaline film that builds up on cars after monsoon weeks or coastal drives. 
• UV protection: Helps slow down oxidation and clearcoat failure from harsh sunlight—especially important in Bangladesh’s high UV months. 
• Surface slickness: Dust and dirt adhere less aggressively; cleaning requires gentler contact, which reduces the risk of swirl marks over time. Deshi motorheads love this! 
• Gloss retention: A well-prepped and coated car looks deeper, wetter, and glossier—longer. Warning! So long as driver mama doesn’t pull out the gamcha 

Important reality check: ceramic coating is NOT armor plating. Rickshaw marks will cut through the coating and into the paint past the clear coat. But….It resists micro-marring better than bare paint and can shrug off very light contact, but it won’t stop rock chips or deep scratches. For that you need Paint Protection Film (PPF).

Some people can choose a hybrid approach: PPF on high-impact areas (front bumper, hood edge, mirror caps) and ceramic coating on the rest. More on that topic on a future blog so stay tuned! 

What “Good” Looks Like So You Don’t feel like – “thoklam naki?

A ceramic coating is only as good as the preparation. Here’s a high-standard process you should expect from a quality studio like us at NASPRO and a few around town.

1. Intake inspection & lighting check to map swirl marks, water spots, and previous repaints. 
2. Pre-wash & decontamination: Citrus snow foam, contact wash, iron fallout remover, and clay bar (if needed) to get paint truly bare. 
3. Paint correction (polishing): Multi-step machine polishing to remove oxidation and minor defects and to refine clarity. This is where the gloss is born; the coating only locks it in. 
4. Panel wipe: Solvent wipe to strip oils so the coating bonds properly. 
5. Controlled application: Even coating layers with correct flash times, panel by panel, precise leveling, microfiber management, and clean room-style habits.  
6. Cure management: Keeping the car dry and dust-free for the initial cure window; advising the customer on first-wash timing and aftercare. 

Shortcut installs (no polishing, rushed wipe-downs, poor lighting) trap defects under the coating and shorten durability. If a shop promises a two-hour “ceramic job” on a vehicle, that’s a red flag.
